Construction costs for transportation impact the ability of the public and private sectors to expand capacity to meet demands. The resources that build and operate transportation come from the public in two forms: 1) directly as fares and costs for owning and using vehicles or, 2) indirectly through various taxes or as a part of the cost of products that are consumed.
This indicator shows changes in the value of residential building permits issued in Florida in billion of dollars. Residential building construction and construction of the supporting infrastructure competes for labor and resources with highway construction and has been shown to influence roadway construction costs. The source for the database is U.S. Census Bureau and Florida Association of Realtors. This indicator is updated monthly with a one month lag time.
